From reality to fiction

The project presents more than 50 works by Russian artists from different regions of Russia. All of them are participants of different Russian and international exhibitions. Their works can be found in art museums and private collections worldwide.

The exhibition includes a range of works in various media — painting, sculpture, drawings — created in the past decade, and will feature artists who are all important figures in the modern art scene.

The key theme selected for the exhibition is the transformation and interplay of fiction and reality – notions, that the past decade forced us to review.

All works displayed are not only reflective of the true Russian nature, but they have enough creative potential to show the ways of modern Russian art development.

The view from within

17 February- 18 March 2011

The display showcases works by Honored painter of Russia Vladimir Sevostianov. It’s his first solo exhibition in Moscow.

Having experienced the influence of the famous Vladimir painting school, Sevostianov developed his own manner of art. His friend V. Dynnikov once wrote in his diary: “there’s neither excessive action, nor over exaggerated plot in Sevostianov painting. In each art piece there’re only references, valuable for their manner of painting, style”. Colours play one of the important roles in Sevostianov painting concept. “Painting is not in multicolour bur in utmost expressiveness of each colour, in their harmony”.

Trying various techniques (painting, graphics), the artist achieved a very special effect of perception. He aims at grasping the very essence of the objects, their inner life and then embodies it with a help of colours. “I paint not the subject but my impulse of feelings”. Thus we look on this world from inside.

Vladimir Sevostianov was born in Leninsk-Kuznetsky in 1952; in 1976 the young artist graduated from High School of Art in Penza and in 1977 he moved to Vladimir where he met the leading artists of the 60s. Through 1980, he collaborated with Petr Dick (1939-2002) and Victor Dynnikov (1939-2005).

Vladimir Sevostianov is a participant of more than 100 exhibitions in Russia and abroad including 10 personal shows. The works can be found in the collections of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Center of Fine Arts in Vladimir, Museum of Fine Arts in Murom, Gallery of Fine Arts in Erlangen (Germany), American Institute of Graphic Arts (USA), as well as private collections around the world.
